What? Why? |
Below are the Train GIFs that I have drawn. As you'll see, I'm beginning with the Wisconsin & Southern Railroad's passenger equipment that was my inspiration to begin making GIFs, and I haven't gotten any further yet.
I have begun "painting" a series of GIF's for Wisconsin & Southern's passenger trains from the first decade of this 21st century. I stumbled across these beauties near Janesville, Wisconsin not even knowing they existed.

These passenger car GIFs may not be as thoroughly to scale as the engines.
They are based on off angle photos. I'll be working on that, but in the mean time they look nice...

I find the whole welded rail process fascinating. Eventually I'll get some good pictures
of the unloading and welding cars that WSOR uses at the rear of the train.

These are my first Train GIF's! My attempt was to make the GIFs as photo realistic as possible. I've varied the colors slightly from pixel to pixel in open areas, tried to emulate the reflective glare off the silver grill work and other such effects.
Sources: WSOR's web site and their Fan Site on TrainWeb, as well as many more railfan photos, were invaluable, since I don't live in southern Wisconsin to do my own photo work. I also used scaled drawings from paintshop.railfan.net and Trainiax.net to help in making these GIFs. I found photos of the FP7A so I made GIFs for it, but I've since been told that WSOR hasn't got it anymore...
I'd also like to give credit to the free graphics editor, i.Mage! I've tried several freewares and sharewares. This one won me over almost instantly. Check it out at www.memecode.com. Of course, if you have a freeware or cheap shareware image editor you think tops this one, I'm all ears...
Terms of Use: As with most other GIF artists, these gifs are free to use for personal purposes, but please let me know you're using them (I'm curious) and list me in the credits and link back to here. If your webpage or use has any commercial content, you'll need to contact me for permission. You can download these for your very own by saving the individual images right off the page. In IE you right click on the image and choose "Save Picture As".
